Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 to 5 large garlic cloves, minced
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 500 g beef mince (something with a bit of fat to keep it juicy)
- 1 teaspoon cooking salt
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your preference)
- 1.5 teaspoons garam masala
- 1.5 teaspoons cumin powder
- 1.5 teaspoons coriander powder
- One half teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup frozen peas
Method
- Add the oil to a pan and heat over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and stir for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
- Add all the spices, including the salt, and mix well for about 30 seconds until the spices are aromatic.
- Add the beef mince. Break it up with a spoon as you cook, stirring often, until it is in small pieces. This will take about 5 minutes. Make sure the beef is fully cooked.
- Add 1 cup of water to the pan.
- Raise the heat to high and bring everything to a simmer.
- Add the peas, then cover with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Serve hot, topped with fresh coriander, Greek yoghurt, or any other condiments you prefer.

Tips
For extra flavour, let the cooked mince sit for a few minutes before serving so the spices settle. You can also add diced tomatoes or potatoes to bulk it up and make it more saucy.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. This mince also freezes well for up to two months. Reheat gently on the stove with a splash of water if needed.
